Dollar Crashes as Exchange Rate Emerges Today, October 1, 2026

The Nigerian local currency opened the month of October on a positive trajectory, recording marginal gains across both the official Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market (NFEM) and the parallel market.
Data from the official trading windows show the Naira strengthening to trade around the 1,327.68 to 1,329.50 per dollar range. This reflects continued stability and active liquidity management supported by recent spikes in interbank turnover, which market reports indicate surged significantly to $179.6 million.
Meanwhile, parallel market traders exchange the US dollar at approximately 1,370 per dollar, improving slightly from previous sessions. This ongoing upward movement in the parallel market has further narrowed the margin between the official and unofficial exchange rates to roughly 40.50 Naira.
Financial analysts note that the shrinking premium between the official NFEM window and the street market is a welcome development for businesses and individuals. A tighter convergence helps curb speculative hoarding and encourages participants to channel transactions through formal banking structures.
