Explosion at Plateau Filling Station Leaves Two Dead, Three Injured

An explosion at a filling station in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State has left two people dead and three others injured.
The incident occurred on Friday at Natty Filling Station in Daffo community while maintenance work was being carried out on an underground fuel tank.
A community leader, Kefas Mallai, chairman of the Community Peace Observers in the area, confirmed the incident, saying the blast happened during welding work on a leaking underground tank.
He explained that two welders—a man and his apprentice—died instantly after the tank suddenly exploded while repairs were ongoing. Three other people who were nearby at the time of the incident sustained injuries and have been taken to the hospital for treatment.
Mallai said residents rushed to the scene after hearing the explosion, adding that the situation caused panic in the community.
According to him, there was no fuel in the tank at the time, and the workers believed it was safe to carry out repairs before the sudden explosion occurred.
As of the time of filing this report, authorities had yet to issue an official statement, while the identities of the victims have not been confirmed.
