Osun 2026: Adebayo Adedamola Clinches PDP Governorship Ticket

Following the successful governorship primary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State, Adebayo Adedamola, widely known as Fryo, has been selected as the party’s candidate for the upcoming gubernatorial election.
The primary took place at Adolak Hall in Osogbo on Tuesday, where Adedamola received a significant majority of the votes, securing 919 out of the total.
His main opponent, incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke, did not participate in the primary after announcing his resignation from the party less than 24 hours prior to the election.
The PDP electoral committee, headed by Mr. Humphrey Abba, accredited 957 delegates out of 990 before the primary began, with a total of 20 votes deemed void.
In announcing the results, Mr. Abba confirmed that Adedamola’s 919 votes positioned him as the party’s candidate, following the resignation of the current governor from the PDP.
“Following the successful voting, I am pleased to announce that 20 void votes were recorded. We told you earlier that one of the aspirants withdrew. The candidate that got the remaining votes is Adebayo Adedamola with 919 votes and stands elected and returned,” he said.
A few minutes after the result was announced and the electoral committee left the venue, the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Adewale Egbedun, led some lawmakers to the venue to disrupt the exercise, which was successfully completed.
He was, however, involved in a serious altercation with officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), who were at the venue to monitor the exercise.
