The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a warning to its members regarding the endorsement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term.

The NWC emphasised that such endorsements constitute anti-party activity and will result in significant disciplinary measures.

In a statement released on Friday by Debo Ologunagba, the National Publicity Secretary, the party conveyed its concern over the actions of certain prominent members who have publicly expressed support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its prospective candidate for the 2027 presidential election. Such actions are deemed to contravene the PDP Constitution.

The NWC referenced Section 10(6) of the party’s constitution, which explicitly prohibits members from forming alliances with other political entities or groups in a manner that undermines the PDP or its elected officials.

The committee noted that these endorsements, along with ongoing public criticisms of the PDP, pose a threat to party cohesion and could adversely affect electoral outcomes if not addressed adequately.

As a result, the NWC has issued a stern admonition and urged those involved to retract their statements to avoid disciplinary action in accordance with Section 59(1) of the party’s constitution.

While the statement did not mention specific individuals, it is understood that figures such as Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, as well as several PDP governors and prominent members, have recently expressed support for President Tinubu’s re-election campaign.
