Insecurity: Zamfara Govt Declares Curfew Over Incessant Terrorists Attack

The Zamfara state police command says seven students of the Federal Polytechnic, Kaura Namoda, were abducted by suspected bandits on Tuesday.

Yazid Abubakar, spokesperson of the command, told TheCable the gunmen abducted the students during an attack on their residence located in the Low-Cost area of Kaura Namoda town.

Abubakar said one of the abducted students managed to escape, while six others remain in captivity.

“The school premises have been fortified with adequate security personnel, making it extremely difficult for bandits to penetrate,” he said.

The police spokesperson said preliminary findings showed that one of the students stepped outside during the night and inadvertently left the door open.

“One of the students went outside during the night, claiming he wanted to urinate. In the process, he left the door open. Coincidentally, bandits passing through the area entered the house and abducted the students,” he said.

Abubakar said operatives of the command’s violent crime response unit (VCRU) had teamed up with troops of operation Fansan Yamma to track down the abductors and secure the victims’ release.

The latest abduction adds to a string of violent attacks reported across the country in recent days.

Earlier on Wednesday, gunmen kidnapped Olaide John-Paul, sister of Adebayo Adelabu, former minister of power, alongside her twin sons, Peter and Paul, in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

Also on Sunday, four people were killed after gunmen attacked the convoy of Ben Nwankwo, chief of staff to Chukwuma Soludo, governor of Anambra.
