APC Speaks on Clearing Wike’s Allies, Dumping Fubara’s Men at Primary Screening

The ongoing peace accord between Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, is facing potential challenges as the 2027 general elections approach. Reports indicate that both political figures are revisiting their positions regarding the succession of Fubara as governor. This rising tension is reportedly connected to a peace agreement facilitated by President Bola Tinubu, which allegedly included a commitment from Fubara not to pursue re-election in 2027 and to align with the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The All Progressives Congress (APC) screening committee for the Rivers State House of Assembly has dismissed a purported list of cleared and uncleared aspirants for the 2027 elections, as reported by Naija News.

According Naija News, the committee said the list did not emanate from it and should be disregarded.

Reports had earlier claimed that the committee released a list of successful and unsuccessful aspirants after screening 98 persons.

It was also claimed that 65 aspirants allegedly linked to Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, were not cleared, while 33 aspirants said to be loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, were cleared.

However, in a disclaimer signed on Monday by the secretary of the committee, Hon. Tanko Yamowa, the party described the circulating list as false and unauthorised.

The statement read, “The attention of the party leadership has been drawn to the circulation of a purported list of cleared and uncleared aspirants for the Rivers State House of Assembly currently making rounds across various media platforms.

“We wish to categorically state that the said publication is false, unauthorised, and does not emanate from the appropriate party authorities.”

The committee said the screening exercise, chaired by Rt. Hon. Muraina Ajibola had only just been concluded, and no official list had been released.

“It is important to note that the screening exercise conducted by the committee headed by Mauriana Ajibola was concluded less than 24 hours ago, and no official list has been released by the party at this time,” the statement added.

The APC said it remained guided by established procedures and timelines for publishing screening results.

The statement added, “As a responsible political party, we are guided by established procedures, rules, and timelines regarding the publication of screening results and related information. Any official communication concerning the status of aspirants will be communicated through the appropriate channels in due course.

“We therefore urge party faithful, aspirants, supporters, and the general public to disregard the purported list and treat it as the handiwork of mischief-makers whose intention is to create confusion and unnecessary tension within the party.”
