EXCLUSIVE: NDC Reveals Party’s Presidential Candidate After Convention

There was widespread jubilation among supporters and loyalists of former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, following strong indications that he may emerge as the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
This comes after the party reportedly zoned its 2027 presidential ticket to the South during its national convention held on Friday, a move seen by political observers as favouring Obiās ambition.
Recall that Obi and former Kano State governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, recently dumped the ADC amid an alleged leadership crisis and growing disagreements over the partyās presidential ticket arrangement, particularly concerns surrounding the influence of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

Sources within the NDC disclosed that the party leadership has effectively ācleared the coastā for Obi, describing him as the preferred choice ahead of the 2027 presidential race despite possible internal resistance.
A senior party source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, stated that Obi remains the partyās candidate āregardless of any challenges,ā adding that consultations are ongoing to ensure unity ahead of the official declaration.

The development has already sparked excitement among Obiās supporters across several states, with many expressing confidence that the former Anambra governor would reshape the political landscape if handed the partyās ticket.
Political analysts believe the latest move could further alter alliance calculations ahead of the next general election, especially as major opposition figures continue realignments across party lines.
