Meet Next Lagos Governor as APC Picks Party Loyalist

Mudashiru Obasa, the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, has expressed his belief that the state’s deputy governor, Obafemi Hamzat, is a suitable candidate to succeed Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

This endorsement came during Hamzat’s visit to Obasa’s official residence in Ikeja on Thursday.

Hamzat’s visit is part of a broader strategy to engage with stakeholders and leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as he prepares for the upcoming 2027 elections.

During their meeting, Obasa commended Hamzat for his strong commitment to infrastructure development and his loyalty to the party.

Obasa urged APC members to rally behind Hamzat in his bid for the governorship, emphasizing the need for collective efforts to secure victory in the forthcoming elections.

He said, “I just returned from Abuja, and the conversation remains the same Dr Obafemi Hamzat is the next Governor of Lagos State.

“You have demonstrated unquestionable loyalty to our great party and even greater competence in serving Lagos.

“We love you, we support you, and we will do everything to ensure that we win the election.”

Responding, Hamzat expressed gratitude for the warm reception, highlighting Obasa’s legislative experience and political network.

He also reiterated his commitment to collaborative governance.

Hamzat said, “Lagos is a collective project. My consultations are not about personal ambition but about ensuring continuity, innovation, and inclusive development for our people.”
