Sacked Finance Minister Finally Speaks Out After Tinubu’s Shock Move

Former Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, publicly expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu following his removal from office, emphasizing that his tenure in government was both an honor and a privilege.

In a statement released shortly after his departure, Edun thanked the President for the trust placed in him with significant responsibilities since the administration’s commencement in May 2023.

Edun’s service included roles as head of the Presidential Transition Committee, Special Adviser on Monetary Policy, and ultimately, Minister of Finance.

He reflected on the administration’s challenges, noting that it inherited a fragile economy but worked collectively to stabilize the macroeconomic landscape and enhance fiscal sustainability.

Under Edun’s leadership, economic growth improved from approximately two percent to over four percent, and inflation was reduced significantly from 35 percent to 15 percent.

He attributed these achievements to a collective commitment to restoring public trust, boosting investor confidence, and promoting inclusive economic growth.

Edun acknowledged the contributions of colleagues in the Federal Executive Council, state governors, and stakeholders from both public and private sectors, highlighting their collaboration as essential to the progress made.

While recognizing that considerable work remains, he expressed optimism about Nigeria’s economic trajectory, noting that the foundational elements for long-term growth have been established.
