Gbenga Daniel Shut Out of Caucus Meeting as APC Endorses Abiodun for Senate 2027

Gbenga Daniel, senator representing Ogun east, was barred from attending a caucus meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday in Ijebu Ode area of the state, as reported by TheCable.

A viral video on X shows the moment the senator’s convoy was denied access to the premises of Adeola Odutola hall in Ijebu Ode, where the meeting was in progress.

Addressing his supporters from a white bus outside the venue of the event, Daniel said any decisions made at the sit-down would be invalid.

“We are here for our Ogun east APC caucus meeting, but surprisingly, we have been barred. We are told that we can’t enter, but let it be said that whatever they do here today is null and void,” he said in Yoruba.

In August 2025, the Ogun state chapter of the APC suspended Daniel indefinitely over alleged anti-party activities.

TheCable reported how the senator asked his supporters to vote for Bolarinwa Oluwole, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in the August 16 by-election in the south-west state.

The by-election in the Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo north federal constituency of Ogun was conducted to fill the vacant seat left by the death of Adewunmi Onanuga.

However, Adesola Elegbeji of the APC was declared the winner of the poll by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Elegbeji polled 41,237 votes to defeat Oluwole, who garnered 14,324 votes.

Daniel, a former governor of Ogun state, who was first elected to the senate in 2023, is seeking a second term.

Dapo Abiodun, governor of the state, is also vying for the APC ticket for the Ogun east senatorial district.

The race for the party’s ticket is said to have caused tensions between the two politicians.

Meanwhile, leaders and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun east senatorial district have endorsed Dapo Abiodun, governor of the state, as the party’s consensus candidate for the 2027 senatorial election.

The decision was announced on Monday at a gathering held at Adeola Odutola Hall in Ijebu-Ode, which drew a broad coalition of party leaders, former and serving officials, and grassroots representatives from across the district.

In attendance were members of the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC), all LGA chairmen and executives in the district, serving and former lawmakers at state and national levels, all 103 councillors from the nine LGAs, ward chairmen and executives, as well as women and youth leaders.
