Olusegun Mimiko, the former Governor of Ondo State, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in anticipation of the upcoming 2027 general elections.

His resignation was communicated in a letter dated April 10, 2026, which was addressed to the chairman of Ward 7 in the Ondo West Local Government Area.

In the letter, Mimiko formally outlined his decision to depart from the party.

“I am tendering my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party, effective from April 10, 2026,” he stated.

Mimiko explained that there had been growing uncertainty about his political position in recent months. He said it became necessary to clear the air and make his stance known.

“As I have been somewhat distanced from party activities, I wish to put it on record that I am no longer a member of the PDP,” he said.

The former governor added that his decision was taken calmly. He stressed that it was made without any personal grudges within the party.
