Nigeria’s Electricity Customers Rise To 11.96 million — NERC

According to a report from the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), the total number of active electricity customers in Nigeria increased from 11.89 million in July 2025 to 11.96 million in August 2025 across all Distribution Companies (DisCos).

This growth reflects a positive trend in the country’s electricity customer base.

In its latest Metering Factsheet for July and August, shared via its official X and Instagram accounts on Monday, NERC noted that the updated figures span all 11 electricity distribution companies (DisCos) across the country.

According to the regulator, 6.58 million customers were metered in August, representing a metering rate of 55.01%, up slightly from 54.71% in July.

A total of 70,888 customers were newly metered during the month, compared to 76,783 in July, reflecting continued metering efforts across the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI).

The improved metering figures, NERC said, highlight ongoing reforms and investments by DisCos in customer management, aimed at enhancing billing transparency and building consumer trust.

Eko, Ikeja, and Abuja DisCos were ranked among the top performers in metering coverage nationwide, with metering rates of 84.25%, 84.83%, and 73.92% respectively.
