Court sentences pastor Feyi Daniel to life imprisonment for raping church member

The Lagos High Court sitting in Ikeja has convicted and sentenced the founder of “I Reign Christian Ministry”, in the Lekki area of Lagos, Bishop Feyiropo Daniels to Life Imprisonment for the rape of one of his church members.

Justice Rahman Oshodi also sentenced the bishop to 3 Years Imprisonment for the offence of sexual assault of two members of his church.

The judge held that both sentences are to run concurrently.

His name is also to be registered in the Sexual Offenders Register as maintained by the Lagos State Government.

Last year, on April 17, Bishop Daniels was arraigned by the Lagos state government on two counts bordering on allegedly having sexual intercourse with two of his church members.

He pleaded not guilty.

According to the Prosecution, the defendant committed the offences in June 2020 within the Ikota Villa Estate in Lekki, Lagos.

The offences contravene Sections 260 (2) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos 2015.

Delivering judgment, today, Justice Oshodi said he believed the testimony of the complainant as well as other witnesses who gave direct evidence which weren’t contradicted at any point during the trial, despite the denials of the defendant.

The court also held that the prosecution had successfully proven all the ingredients of rape under section 260(2) of the criminal laws of Lagos state, 2015.

Justice Oshodi however discharged the defendant of a second count of allegedly raping another church member at his home in 2020.

The court said the prosecution failed to prove the elements of the use of force, fear of harm by the complainant and misrepresentation by the defendant to establish guilt in the offence of rape beyond all reasonable doubt.

The court also ordered the defendant to serve his jail term at the Kirikiri Maximum Facility where he is currently being detained.

In reaching his judgment, the court found that “the cleric used his dominant character and position to sexually violate two members of his church.

“Rape carries a mandatory life imprisonment and sexual assault carries a jail term of three years, which can’t alleviate the harm on your victims.

Last year, the Bishop had been accused of raping his church member at his Lekki residence

He was also accused of having sexual relations with three other women to whom he had given the amount of N100,000 to one for hospital treatment, paid school fees for another and related with the last woman, as a leader in the campus fellowship affiliated with his ministry at Akungba-Akobo in Ondo State

‘I’ve never broke in my life’ – Oyedepo reveals how he became richest pastor

The Presiding Bishop and founder of the Living Faith Church, also known as Winners Chapel International, David Oyedepo, has shared

The Presiding Bishop and founder of the Living Faith Church, also known as Winners Chapel International, David Oyedepo, has shared insights on how he depended on God to meet his needs, adding that he never “cornered church money,” Punch reports.

During his sermon titled “The Bible: A Most Reliable Guide to Life,” which was streamed live on the church’s YouTube channel on Sunday, Oyedepo highlighted the importance of relying on God’s words to solve life’s problems.

He said, “I asked when God told me to go into full-time ministry, ‘Lord, who pays me?’ because I’m not cultured to beg. I was sincere. Every sincere question has an answer with Jesus.

“Suddenly the word came: ‘after these things, He appointed seventy others also, and the labourer is worthy of his wages.”

Emphasising ‘appointed,’ Oyedepo explained that the response he got from God was “You are in my employment, I am responsible, just stay on duty.”

Oyedepo added, “Light of life. I have not looked for who pays me since then, till tomorrow, and till I go to heaven.

“We have never prayed for what to eat in my family. The five loaves of bread and two fishes were more than enough.

“I never cornered church money of N1 to my side. The light of life is so important; it shows you the way to go.”

Oyedepo further mentioned how God guided him on His purpose for marriage and the principles of building his church.

“Why is this church not growing? He took me through the lines of four points that could grow a church in the desert,” Oyedepo added as he encouraged his congregation to “reach out for the light.”

Beware, no amount of anointing can stop sexual temptation, says Pastor Adeboye

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has said he is still wary of sexual immorality despite his ‘anointing’ and years in the ministry.

Adeboye said despite his age, he runs faster than before to avoid any form of sexual temptation, noting that no amount of anointing can fight such temptation.

The cleric also warned ministers of the gospel to be wary of sexual immorality and the erroneous belief that their ‘anointing’ could help them withstand any temptation.

He stated these during a sermon at the just concluded Ministers & Workers Conference of RCCG America 1, which consists of North, Central & Caribbean with the theme: “The Glory Ahead”.

During the sermon shared on his YouTube page on Friday, Adeboye noted that Samson, who was a judge in Israel, fell into sexual immorality despite the anointing over him.

He said, “Somebody says, at your age, why are you still running? I run faster than before because the closer you get to the finishing point, the more careful you must be.

“Some of you can say, ‘Daddy, what are you saying, are you still running?’ I run fast.

“‘With all your anointing?’ Does anointing turn your body to stone? Samson was anointed. Single-handedly, he killed a thousand soldiers. A woman finished him. I hope the boys are listening.

“You can say, ‘Is anybody still interested in an 82-year-old man?’ She is not interested in you but interested in putting an end to all the great works God has done through you.

“You see that woman smiling at you everywhere you go, she is there smiling, and she is not your wife, run.”

Adeboye also counselled youths to be careful of lust, urging them to run away from anything that looks like sin.

He added, “And you girls, when you see a boy smiling at you saying, ‘Where have you been all my life? It looks as if the sun has just come out.’

“He is calling you sunshine. By the time he finishes with you, you won’t even know the difference between sunshine and sunset. You may laugh but mark my words.

“I do warn my children, particularly the boys. I said if the devil comes against you, tell the devil to get lost, but when you see a girl smiling at you in a funny way, run because you can’t win the battle.

“Didn’t you read a report that a man committed an offence about 42 years ago, and now his ministry is finished? Anybody who tells you that whatever you do is hidden, it’s hidden until the wind begins to blow.

“The Bible says, flee youthful lust. It did not ask you to say grace would be sufficient. There is no grace for what God says you should run from. Maybe grace to run.”

Soun queries Chief Imam for Hajj trip without notification

The Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Afolabi Ghandi Olaoye, has queried to embattled Chief Imam of Ogbomoso, Shiek Taliat Ayilara, for going to Saudi Arabia to perform Hajj exercise without informing him (Soun).

The traditional ruler in the letter dated 10th June, 2024, said what the Chief Imam did was in contrast with the undertaking he signed before he became the Chief Imam.

The query was signed by the palace Secretary, Toyin Ajamu, on behalf of the traditional ruler.

The letter reads: “I refer to the earlier query issued to you with regards to your unbecoming and reprehensible conducts as Chief Imam Agba of Ogbomosoland and the need to desist from such conducts.

“You will recall that on your appointment as Chief Imam Agba of Ogbomosoland you signed an undertaking and agreement which you agreed will be binding on you.

“In the said undertaking, you unequivocally undertook to inform the Soun of Ogbomoso before traveling outside Ogbomoso.

“However, we have been informed that you are currently in Mecca on a Holy pilgrimage without notifying the Soun. This is a clear violation of your undertaking.

“Secondly, you agreed not to appoint any surrogate during your tenure without the approval of His Royal Majesty, Soun of Ogbomoso.

“Nevertheless, we have received information that you have appointed a surrogate namely Sheik Abdulrahman Alim Areo as the acting Chief Imam Agba of Ogbomosoland, who led the Jumat Prayer of Friday, 7th June, 2024 of the Central Mosques.

“This action is a direct breach of your undertakings. As the Soun of Ogbomosoland, I hereby demand that you immediately return to Ogbomoso and rectify these violations and desist from any further actions that violate the the undertakings you signed on the approval of your appointment as Chief Imam Agba of Ogbomosoland.”

When contacted, The Chief Imam confirmed the development, saying this was not the first time the Soun will issue him a query.

He said: “Yes. That is what I am confirming for you. He has issued some queries to me in the past. I will send you the documents.

“This time, he issued the query to me that I didn’t inform him before going to Saudi Arabia.”

1,301 pilgrims died during 2024 hajj, says Saudi Arabia

In an interview on Sunday, Fahd Al-Jalajel, the country’s minister of health, said 83 per cent of the 1,301 fatalities were unauthorised pilgrims who walked long distances in high temperatures to perform the hajj rituals.

The minister said 95 pilgrims were being treated in hospitals, some of whom were airlifted for treatment in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia.

“1,301 people died during the #Hajj1445 season. May Allah have mercy on them all, 83% of them are not authorised for Hajj, who walked long distances under the sun, without shelter or rest, including a number of elderly people and people with chronic diseases,” he said.

On May 26, the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) said Tawakaltu Alako, a Nigerian pilgrim, slumped and died in her hotel at Makkah.

Following this incident, NAHCON has reported many more deaths in this year’s hajj.

Abubakar Adamu, head of Nigeria’s medical team for 2024 Hajj, had told journalists on July 17, that one of the Nigerian pilgrims died due to heatstroke while on his way to Jamrate to perform the ritual of throwing stones.

Temperatures in Mecca this year climbed as high as 51.8 degrees Celsius (125 degrees Fahrenheit).

Mohammed Al-Abdulaali, a spokesperson for the Saudi health ministry, had said that more than 2,760 pilgrims suffered from sunstroke and heat stress on July 16 alone.
