Muri-Okunola retires from Lagos civil service, appointed as Principal Secretary to Tinubu
The Head Of Service (HOS) of the Lagos State Government, Hakeem Muri-Okunola, has retired and confirmed his presidential appointment.
The presidency on Sunday appointed Muri-Okunola as Principal Secretary to President Bola Tinubu.
Muri-Okunola in a statement announced he would be stepping down from his role as the 21st HOS of Lagos while also retiring from the State Civil Service.
“I informed Mr Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu of my voluntary retirement from the Lagos State Civil Service after nearly five years of being your Head Of Service,” Muri-Okunola said.
“It has been a relfilling journey and experience, one that I will cherish for the rest of my life.”
Muri-Okunola thanked the entire public service for their support during the entirety of his tenure as their servant leader because they all made him shine.
He added that they helped him clear the doubts of the naysayers, gave him confidence, and inspired his modest but fulfilled service.
“I appreciate you all individually and collaboratively as a family. We took the Lagos State Public Service to become the most vibrant and excellent public service in Nigeria in particular and sub-Saharan Africa in general as the most professional workforce,” he said.
“I move on to serve the man who inspired and brought me into public service and to take it as a career that eventually took me to the zenith as your Head Of Service.
“I will be taking on a new role in The Presidency to assist and contribute my quota in achieving The Renewed Hope agenda of our President And Commander In Chief, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.”
Muri-Okunola said he feels humbled and privileged to be taking on this new challenge and he is counting on the continued support, cooperation, and prayers of the public.
He further congratulated whoever emerges as his successor, and the 22nd Head of Service Of Lagos and requested Lagosians to give him or her all the support and more than ever, to grow and take the state’s proud public service to greater heights.

Isaac Fayose, younger brother of former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose, has sparked nationwide controversy after declaring that Nigeria belongs only to the Hausa and Yoruba ethnic groups.
In a viral video making the rounds on social media, Fayose dismissed the long-standing belief that Nigeria’s unity rests on a tripod of Hausa, Igbo, and Yoruba.
He claimed that the Igbos have been marginalized and not counted among the country’s dominant groups.
He stated: “They said Nigeria belongs to Hausa, Igbo, and Yoruba, but that’s a lie… take out that Igbo, stop including them because it’s a lie.”
The remarks have triggered widespread backlash, with many Nigerians accusing him of promoting ethnic hatred and fueling disunity.
Others, however, agreed with his statement, describing it as “an honest truth” about Nigeria’s politics.
