Davido Reveals Preffered 2027 Presidential Candidate

Nigerian music star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has ruled out supporting the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 presidential election, despite his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, declaring support for President Bola Tinubu.
The singer made his position known during an interview with News Central TV in a video that has circulated widely on social media.
His comments come after the Osun State governorship election, in which his uncle secured another term, and the governor’s subsequent declaration of support for Tinubu ahead of the next presidential election.
Davido said his uncle’s political decision was personal and should not be taken as an indication of his own position.
He maintained that he had fulfilled his responsibility to the people of Osun State and his family during the governorship election and was not under any obligation to adopt a particular presidential candidate because of his family ties.
The singer also dismissed the idea that his involvement in the Osun election meant he had already decided which political party to support at the national level in 2027.
Reflecting on his role in the governorship campaign, Davido said, “I defeated 17 governors with all their power, with all their immunity, escort commanders, DSS, with all their billions. I defeated them with just a phone.
“For now, I feel like I did what I had to do for the Osun people and my family.
“You can’t force me to have a presidential candidate. My uncle might have his personal reasons for the gain of the state.”
He further stressed that his uncle’s endorsement of Tinubu should not be interpreted as a family-wide political decision.
According to him, Governor Adeleke could have his reasons for supporting the president, particularly where he believes such a move could benefit Osun State.
However, Davido insisted that he would make his own decision when he considers the options available ahead of the 2027 election.
The singer said, “My uncle, immediately he won, came out to declare his support for President Tinubu. But as for me, I am not prepared to support anybody.
“I personally haven’t seen anybody in the past. Yes, I have supported Atiku before when we were in PDP, and I even supported in 2015 when APC first did the merger. My late uncle was part of the APC, so I campaigned then.
“But right now, I don’t have a presidential candidate. It might change, sha. It’s not going to be APC, but everybody should have their own,” he said.
Davido’s comments indicate that he is not currently backing any opposition candidate either, despite ruling out support for the ruling party.
He left the possibility of endorsing another candidate open but made it clear that the APC would not be his choice for the 2027 presidential contest.
Politics Nigeria recalls that Governor Adeleke reaffirmed his endorsement in March 2026, describing the president as a leader whose continued political influence was important to the South-West.
His position remained unchanged after his victory in the Osun governorship election.
Davido played an active role in his uncle’s campaign for a second term.
The singer participated in mobilisation efforts and used his public profile to encourage support for the governor, who contested under the Accord Party rather than the PDP, the platform on which he won the 2022 election.
The Independent National Electoral Commission declared Adeleke the winner of the August 15, 2026, governorship election after he polled 511,067 votes.
His closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the APC, received 444,815 votes, giving the incumbent a margin of 66,252 votes.
The result secured Adeleke another four-year term in office.
