Popular Politician Emerges NDC Lagos Guber Candidate (PHOTO)

Funso Doherty, a prominent politician in Lagos, has officially accepted the nomination from the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) to run as its governorship candidate in the upcoming 2027 Lagos State election.
In an acceptance letter posted on his verified X account on Friday, Doherty expressed his appreciation to the party for the nomination, describing it as an opportunity to serve with humility and a clear purpose.
He also pledged to promote a vision of inclusive leadership throughout his campaign.

Accompanying his post were images showing him holding the party’s 2026 gubernatorial nomination form, alongside a campaign poster declaring him the NDC flag bearer with the Yoruba slogan “Ó TI YÁ,” meaning “it is time for change.”
“With profound humility, gratitude, and a clear sense of purpose, I accept our party’s nomination to serve as its candidate for Governor of Lagos State in 2027,” he wrote.

He added that he was grateful for the confidence reposed in him by the party, stressing that Lagos deserved more inclusive governance that works for all residents.
“The real work begins now. Together, we will build the Lagos that we know is possible. My friends, it’s time, Ó TI YÁ!” he said.
Doherty recently defected to the NDC after leaving the African Democratic Congress (ADC), weeks after also exiting the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
His movement followed ongoing realignments within opposition parties, which he said had weakened hopes of a united coalition.
According to him, the ADC was initially expected to serve as a unifying platform for the opposition, but internal divisions led some members to move to the NDC while others remained in the ADC.
He said his decision to join the NDC came after consultations, reflection and what he described as careful consideration of the party’s direction.
Doherty added that the NDC represented a pathway to delivering good governance to citizens and called on supporters to join what he described as a challenging but hopeful political journey ahead of 2027.
