2027: Another APC Governorship Aspirant Resigns After Party Decision

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has petitioned the National Judicial Council (NJC) demanding the review of court order

A governorship aspirant in Adamawa State, Maurice Vunobolki, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress, citing a lack of transparency, fairness, and internal democracy within the party.

He made this known during a news briefing in Yola on Tuesday.

Addressing journalists, Vunobolki said his decision followed recent developments within the party, which, according to him, contradicted earlier assurances given to members.

“My decision was prompted by recent developments in the APC that contradict earlier assurances of equity and a level playing field,” he said.

The politician disclosed that he had defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the APC on February 23, 2026, based on assurances of fairness within the party.

He added that the move was also influenced by indications at the time that Governor Ahmadu Fintiri was set to join the APC.

However, he lamented that current realities within the party and the state government had undermined those expectations.

‘System driven by imposition’

Vunobolki warned that the political environment within the APC is increasingly characterised by imposition rather than democratic processes.

“As a long-standing participant in Nigeria’s political space, I recognise the signs of a system that is tilting towards impositions; there is a growing likelihood that decisions will be made through manipulated consensus rather than a transparent and credible process,” he said.

Despite his resignation, Vunobolki said he remains a governorship aspirant but has yet to decide which political platform he would pursue his ambition under.

He urged his supporters across Adamawa State to also withdraw their membership from the APC and await further directives on the next political direction.
