Fresh Tension in ADC as Obi’s VP Chances Dim, Amaechi Gains Ground

Fresh tension is said to be brewing within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) over the possible exclusion of Peter Obi from the party’s vice-presidential slot, as some stakeholders reportedly tilt support toward Rotimi Amaechi.
Party sources familiar with ongoing consultations disclosed that divisions have begun to surface among influential blocs within the ADC, with a section of members expressing reservations about Obi’s suitability as a running mate.
According to insiders, concerns over what some members described as “political unpredictability” and shifting alliances have fueled debate about whether Obi would be the most strategic choice for the ticket. While his national visibility and support base remain significant, critics within the party are said to be questioning long-term alignment and internal cohesion.
However, supporters of the former Anambra governor insist he remains a strong electoral asset capable of boosting the party’s national appeal.
Meanwhile, a faction within the party is reportedly rooting for Amaechi, citing his experience at both state and federal levels as well as his political network across regions. Backers argue that his administrative background and grassroots connections could strengthen the party’s chances in key battleground states.
Though no official endorsement has been announced, party deliberations are said to be intensifying behind closed doors.
Beyond personality debates, zoning considerations and coalition talks are also believed to be shaping discussions. Party leaders are reportedly weighing regional balance, electoral mathematics and internal stability before arriving at a final decision.
Efforts to reach ADC national leadership for confirmation were unsuccessful as of press time.
As consultations continue, observers say the unfolding developments could redefine alliances within the party and determine the eventual composition of its presidential ticket.
