INEC Finalises 2027 Election Timetable

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reaffirmed its preparedness for the upcoming 2027 general election, despite the ongoing delays in the passage of the amended Electoral Act by the National Assembly.

INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, announced that the commission has completed the election timetable and scheduled activities.

During a meeting in Abuja with Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), Amupitan mentioned that INEC has submitted its proposals to the National Assembly.

However, he acknowledged that certain aspects of the scheduled activities may be influenced by the eventual passage of the electoral act.

For the time being, the commission will continue to operate under the existing Electoral Act for its planning and preparations.
