Two Drivers Die, Four Injured In Ogun Road Crashes

Two separate accidents occurred over the weekend at the Trailer Park in Ijebu-Ode and the Arigbabu area of Sagamu, Ogun State, resulting in the deaths of two drivers and injuries to four others
According PUNCH Metro, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, Babatunde Akinbiyi, that the Saturday accident happened at about 5:30 p.m. and involved a passenger bus and a truck.
Akinbiyi noted that the accident occurred when the passenger bus lost control due to excessive speeding and rammed into a moving containerised truck.
The impact of the collision, according to Akinbiyi, resulted in the death of the passenger bus driver.
“A fatal RTA occurred at the Trailer Park, Ijebu-Ode, along the Sagamu-Benin Expressway. It involved a white containerised truck with number plate KTU 357 XX and a white bus with number plate DGB 650 XA.
“According to eyewitnesses at the scene of the accident, coupled with evidence on the ground, the bus driver was speeding, lost control, and rammed into the containerised truck from the rear while the truck was navigating the expressway from the Trailer Park, Ijebu-Ode.
“Five people were involved; two people were injured, and one person (the bus driver) died in the accident. TRACE operatives, in collaboration with FRSC officials, conveyed the deceased to the General Hospital mortuary, Ijebu-Ode,” Akinbiyi noted.
In another update, the TRACE spokesperson stated that a lone accident that occurred at the Arigbabu area of Mosimi, Sagamu-Ikorodu Expressway, on Sunday morning, led to the death of one person, while two others sustained injuries.
According to him, the driver of an unregistered mini truck fell asleep while at the wheel and rammed into a culvert along the road.
The impact of the collision was said to have caused the death of the driver, whose body was taken away by his family.
He stated, “According to one of the occupants, the driver of the accidented vehicle fell asleep while driving and rammed into a culvert, which eventually led to his death.
“Three people were involved; two people were injured, while one person (the driver) died. The deceased was taken away by his family before our arrival. The other occupants of the vehicle were rescued by their families.
“TRACE operatives and FRSC managed the traffic situation that followed.”
Akinbiyi conveyed the Acting TRACE Corps Commander, Elias Omonayajo’s, condolences to the families of the deceased and urged drivers to always adopt safe driving practices.
