Fans react over Davido’s post ‘promoting cultism’

Davido, the Afrobeats star, has come under heavy criticism over an X post some users interpreted as “endorsing cultism”, according to TheCable.ng.

On Monday, the singer wrote “Happy Metal” on X (formerly Twitter), a phrase that many linked to the Neo-Black Movement (NBM), also known as the Black Axe confraternity, which celebrates its founding anniversary on July 7.

Happy METAL

The term “Metal” is believed to be a coded reference to the group’s axe symbol.

While the NBM claims to be a nonviolent organisation, it has faced allegations of involvement in criminal activities.

Davido’s post drew sharp criticism, with many accusing him of glorifying a group associated with violence.

Several X users slammed the singer, urging him to focus on his music and set a better example as a public figure and father. Others warned that his post could incite cult-related violence among fans.

“At this age? Davido, you’re now a married man with children who are looking up to you and learning from you. Cultism should be the least of the things that should occupy your mind at this age. If you’re too less busy, then enter the studio and come up with something productive and profitable,” one users wrote.

“Very foolish boy. Very soon you celebrities would become victims of this cult violence,” another user wrote.

A user wrote: Why you dey promote cuItism ??? Osakpolor you fok up o.

“Fan wey u suppose dey lead right, you dey teach dem yeye thing,” another post reads.

“Almost every crime you can think of that’s destroying the poor citizens of Nigeria 🇳🇬 your hands dey inside. Petty scam oo, you dey. Online fraud, you dey. Ponzi Scheme oo, you dey like mad. Crypto scam oo, you dey. Political scam oo, you dey. Even to visit Tinubu, a President that his government is destroying the country, you dey like werey. Even down to 🪓 you put body dey promote am.

“You make it hard for even your die hard fans to defend you. Is not a coincident that your name is boldly written in alot of these problems.”

If you’re okay with Davido promoting cultism, I’m rooting for your kids to listen to the advice and join them.
No need to argue with anyone, just say amen.

As a public figure, it’s wrong to promote cultism.

Davido, do better. You have many young people looking up to you, don’t mislead them.

FYI: this guy is aware how much deaths are caused per year via cultism and still somehow promotes it!

The police have constantly warned against the celebration of 7/7 in Nigeria.

On Sunday, the Ondo police command disclosed that the activities associated with the celebration of July 7 (7/7) will not be tolerated in the state, advising those planning such to desist.
