Dino Melaye, former Kogi west senator, has accused Iliya Damagum, the acting national chair of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), of destroying the party.

In a post on his X account on Saturday, Melaye claimed that Samuel Anyanwu, national secretary of the PDP, and Umar Bature, national organising secretary, of leading the party to ruin.

Melaye, PDP’s governorship candidate in Kogi state during the last election, said the trio “commercialised and privatised” the party.

“End of the road for PDP as Damagum, Bature, and Anyanwu irredeemably destroyed the party,” Melaye wrote.

“We will talk about the commercialisation and privatisation of PDP. PDP is now once upon a time.”

Damagum assumed the role of acting chair on March 28, 2023, following a court order restraining Iyorchia Ayu from continuing to lead the PDP.

Ayu, a former senate president, was suspended by his ward in Benue state in the build up to the 2023 elections.

The executive members of Igyorov ward in Gboko LGA, Benue state, had passed a vote of no confidence in Ayu over alleged anti-party activities.

In April, Ayu withdrew a lawsuit challenging his removal from office as national chair of the opposition party.
