Messi scored his fifth Major League Soccer goal of 2024 with a fabulous strike from 25 yards early in the second half.

That came after the Miami skipper had provided a fine assist for Diego Gomez’s equalizer.

Erik Thommy had earlier opened the scoring for Kansas and he then netted again shortly after Messi’s goal to tie the game at 2-2.

But Luis Suarez struck the winner in the 71st minute following some impressive industrious set-up play by Gomez.

Saturday’s win took Miami back to first place in the Eastern Conference.

The Herons now have 15 points from nine fixtures this season.

The official attendance at Arrowhead Stadium was 72,610, which was the biggest crowd ever witnessed for a game of soccer in Missouri.

Meanwhile, only two games in MLS history have been played in front of bigger crowds.
