BREAKING: Nigerian Govs Declare Monday October 5, 2026 Public Holiday

The Ekiti and Kwara State Governments have declared Monday, October 5, 2026, a work-free day for teachers across the states to enable them to participate fully in activities marking the 2026 World Teachers’ Day.

The State Commissioner for Education, Dr Olabimpe Aderiye who disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, said the gesture was to allow teachers to join colleagues and stakeholders in celebrating the annual event and highlighting their vital role in the education sector.

Consequently, all day students in public schools across the state are to stay at home on Monday, October 5, 2026.

The Commissioner urged parents, guardians, school authorities and students to take note of the arrangement and make the necessary preparations.

He commended Ekiti teachers for their dedication, professionalism and unwavering commitment to nurturing young minds and advancing the State’s education system.

The Commissioner congratulated teachers on the occasion of the 2026 World Teachers’ Day, assuring them of the State Government’s continued recognition, support and appreciation for their invaluable contributions to the development of education and the future of Ekiti children.

Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has declared Monday, October 5, 2026, a work-free day for teachers across the state to commemorate this year’s World Teachers’ Day.

The declaration was contained in a statement issued on Friday by the Deputy Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mashood Agboola.

AbdulRazaq extended his best wishes to teachers across the state and commended them for their contributions to human capital development and their resilience in the discharge of their duties.

“His Excellency extends his best wishes to teachers across the length and breadth of the state whose contributions to human capital development is acknowledged at all times,” Agboola said.
