The Emir of Zurmi in Zamfara State, Alhaji Bello Sulaiman, also known as the Sarkin Zamfaran Zurmi, has died at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Gusau. The traditional ruler reportedly passed away on Monday.

Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, expressed sadness over the monarch’s death in a statement issued on Tuesday, describing it as a significant loss to the Zurmi Emirate and the state. He said Sulaiman would be remembered for his service to his people and his contributions to the traditional institution.

Lawal also commended the late emir for his commitment to peace and development in Zamfara State. He extended his condolences to the deceased’s family, the Zurmi Emirate Council and the people of the emirate, while praying to Almighty Allah to forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljannah Firdaus.

Sulaiman’s death comes against the backdrop of persistent security challenges in the area. In May 2024, bandits reportedly attacked the Emir’s palace, killing three officials. Sulaiman had succeeded Abubakar Atiku, who was deposed in 2022 over alleged involvement in banditry.
