BREAKING: House of Reps Withdraws State Police Bill, Takes Fresh Step

The House of Representatives has retracted its previously proposed constitutional amendment aimed at establishing state police throughout Nigeria.

This decision aligns with the lawmakers’ progression on a different state police bill put forth by the Executive branch of government.

During a plenary session on Tuesday, the House successfully advanced the Executive-sponsored bill through both its first and second readings.

Following this, the legislation was directed to the House Committee on Constitutional Review for additional legislative deliberation.

The decision effectively puts the House’s earlier proposal on hold while attention shifts to the Executive-backed version of the amendment.

With the Executive bill now advancing in the House, lawmakers are expected to examine key provisions of the proposal during the committee stage.
