FG Declares Two-Day Public Holidays For Eid-el-Kabir

The Federal Government has officially designated Wednesday, May 27, and Thursday, May 28, 2026, as public holidays in observance of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
This announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, and communicated in a statement from the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, on Monday in Abuja.
This decision underscores the government’s acknowledgment of the faith and spiritual traditions of millions of Nigerian Muslims as they join the global Islamic community in commemorating this significant occasion.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo extended his congratulations to Muslim communities in Nigeria and abroad, emphasizing that Eid-el-Kabir is a festival marked by profound spiritual meaning, centered around themes of sacrifice, obedience to God, and compassion for others.
The Federal Government encouraged all Nigerians to utilize this time for prayer and reflection, urging citizens to seek divine guidance as the nation continues its efforts towards achieving peace, security, and prosperity.
“It is in the spirit of brotherhood, shared humanity, and national unity that the Federal Government wishes all Muslims a peaceful, blessed, and joyous celebration,” the statement read.
Meanwhile, the Headquarters, Joint Task Force North-East, Operation Hadin Kai, has said comprehensive security arrangements have been put in place ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.
According to Naija News, the command has announced measures designed to enhance safety and security for residents in the North-East region during the festive season. Lt. Col. Sani Uba shared this information, the Media Information Officer for the Headquarters Joint Task Force North-East, Operation Hadin Kai.
The command’s alert is grounded in credible intelligence suggesting that remnants of Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province may be planning isolated attacks during the celebrations.
