Amidst defection, Kwankwaso visits Presidential Villa

A chieftain of APC and political ally of President Muhammadu Buhari, Abdulmajid Danbilki Kwamanda, yesterday told the President-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, not to welcome Kwankwaso to the ruling party or offer him an appointment.

Speaking in an emergency press briefing he had with reporters in Kano, Danbilki described any attempt by Tinubu to offer Kwankwaso an appointment as a betrayal of trust and commitment of his supporters in the region, which he noted would be rejected.

The APC chieftain warned that Kwankwaso has an agenda to bring the APC down if he is allowed into the party as he attempted in the past but could not succeed and had to leave for the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which he allegedly shattered and left for NNPP where he became its presidential candidate.

Danbilki said: “We in the Northwest do not welcome Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to our great party, APC.

“We do not accept the move by Bola Ahmed Tinubu to give him an appointment, even as low as a messenger in our dear party.

“Should Tinubu ignore our outcry and appoint Kwankwaso, we are going to disrupt the entire APC in the North and withdraw our support for him.

“If we set the party on fire, not even Tinubu as president can extinguish that fire. We are the north and the people are our people.

“We have invested all our efforts, time, integrity and dignity in the North to mobilise the people to vote for Tinubu.

“They refused to vote for a fellow northerner just for him to win in the region, and now he comes to embrace and romance with our major opposition.

“We will not accept that.

“We assure Tinubu that we will turn our back on him if he decides to ignore our advice.

“Don’t welcome Kwankwaso to the party and don’t give him any appointment.

This is our message to Tinubu and all APC members.”

He further warned Tinubu to steer clear of the antics of Kwankwaso lest he leads him and the party into a serious crisis as he (Tinubu) plans to enhance democracy in the country when he assumes office.

Danbilki added: “Kwankwaso is a green snake in a green grass. He will mislead Tinubu and plunge the party into crisis and bring the president-elect down.

“Already, he had campaigned against voting for Tinubu in Kano. He called Tinubu an enemy of the North, a criminal and unhealthy individual.

“It will therefore be a mistake to welcome such a politician into the ruling party or give him any appointment in Tinubu’s government.”

On whether Tinubu is trying to reward Kwankwaso for pulling Kano people away from voting for the PDP during the presidential election, Danbilki said Kwankwaso did nothing to help Tinubu, apart from the APC supporters in the state.

He explained that the PDP in Kano was engulfed in an internal crisis between the two governorship candidates, Saadiq Wali and Muhammad Abacha, as well as the leadership of the party.

He said: “With the crisis, the PDP was definitely going to lose support and votes, and that had nothing to do with Kwankwaso as wrongly propagated.”
