Tems hints at future collaboration with Arya Starr

Tems has praised Ayra Starr for her hard work and dedication to her craft while hinting at the possibility of working together on a music project someday.

The Grammy Award-winning artist was recently featured on NPR Music, where she performed songs from her debut album ‘Born in the Wild’.

During the show, the 29-year-old musician spoke highly of Ayra Starr, whose sophomore album “The Year I Turned 21” displaced Tems’ album from the number one spot on Apple Music’s chart of most listened to Albums in Nigeria. She described the 22-year-old Starr as an artist who reminds her of herself.

When asked about the possibility of a future collaboration with the Mavin artist, she responded, “Possibly.”

Tems and Ayra Starr are leading the next wave of Nigerian music
Tems and Ayra Starr continue to shine in the music industry, setting new standards and inspiring the next generation of artists with their talent and dedication. The artists are two of the most listened-to artists in Nigeria currently. Yet, they continue to gain fans from other climes.

Ayra Starr, born Oyinkansola Aderibigbe, gained widespread attention after releasing her hit track ‘Bloody Samaritan’ in 2021. With numerous awards and accolades, Starr has quickly risen to become one of the continent’s leading female artists. She was among the Nigerian music stars nominated for the last Grammy Awards, earning a nod in the inaugural ‘Best African Music Performance’ category for her hit song ‘Rush’.

Tems, on the other hand, rose to fame in 2020 through her collaboration with Wizkid on the song ‘Essence’. She released her debut EP ‘For Broken Ears’ the same year. In February 2023, she won her first Grammy Award in the ‘Best Melodic Rap Performance’ category for her role in ‘Wait for U’, a 2022 hit song by Future featuring Drake.

It is pleasing to see the two musicians show mutual respect. Earlier this year, in March, Ayra Starr was asked whom she wanted to give flowers for International Women’s Day. She named three fellow artists — Tems, Tyla and Tiwa Savage. Should the two decide to collaborate on a track, it is sure to be a major hit and the music lovers worldwide would love to see that.

Eedris Abdulkareem drags Adeboye, Tinubu, others in new song, ‘Emi Lokan’

Nigerian singer Eedris Abdulkareem has criticised Pastor E.A. Adeboye, the senior pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, over his silence on the hardship in the country.

Eedris, in a newly released satirical song titled ‘Emilokan’, accused Adeboye of hypocrisy in the face of the hardship confronting Nigerians under Tinubu’s government.

Eedris mentioned that while Adeboye was vocal in criticising the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan, he has remained silent over the hardships faced by Nigerians under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

He said, “During Good Luck Jonathan, your voice was so loud, you vowed to stage a one-million-dollar match. Hunger and hardship under Tinubu’s government; you said Nigeria has a spiritual problem.”

Calling for a protest against Tinubu’s administration, Eedris said, “Baba, we need your one million disciples to protest against Tinubu’s government just the way you protested against President Jonathan.

“This is a very big hypocrisy; this is the time for you to speak the truth to power because hunger wants to kill Nigerians.”

He also claimed in the song that Emi Lokan [It’s my turn], a popular slogan used by Tinubu during his electoral campaign, has turned to Ebi Lokan [It’s hunger’s turn] as Nigerians complain of hunger across the nation.

“Emi lokan don turn ebi lokan Yorubas are screaming “’ebi panwao ooo”

Idris mentioned that while Adeboye was vocal in criticising the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan, he has remained silent over the hardships faced by Nigerians under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Speaking on the minimum wage demands of the organised labour, Eedris Abdulkareem said senators and house of Representative members should be paid N65,000, so “everybody would enjoy the suffering and smiling.”

How I felt learning my wife was pregnant with triplets — Ali Baba

How I felt learning my wife was pregnant with triplets — Ali Baba

Veteran stand-up comedian, Atunyota Akpobome, aka Ali Baba, has stated that when he learnt that his wife was expecting triplets, he felt a mix of emotions.

In an interview with Saturday Beats, he said, “I felt indifferent, but I was also happy.”

Expressing concern over the exclusion of the entertainment and creative industry from a five-year forecast of the Nigerian economy by the Nigerian Economic Summit Group two years ago, Alibaba said, “A booklet of about 200 pages containing a forecast of the Nigerian economy was done and the creative industry was not considered. I think the people who were in the Nigerian Economic Summit Group then were badly advised. But, they have started setting up sub-committees to look into it. It was a great oversight that should not have been allowed. And, it is because many of the sectors are overlooked. (How can) you overlook a sector that makes more money than some insurance companies, and advertising agencies? Even advertising agencies are part of the creative industry. It’s sad, but I believe all that is being corrected.”

The funnyman also noted that corruption was a far more serious issue in Nigeria compared to the moral controversies raised by skit makers and content creators. He said, “The thing is that your moral yardstick is not gauged by skit makers or content creators. It is based on parental control, government policies, and the educational systems. It is what the society does that is mirrored. For instance, the boy who is making skits about prostitution is not the one who caused it. That does not mean they should promote it all the time though. But, when you have people surviving in corruption and nothing is done to them, have any of those things being banned? No! But, morality is now the big issue when corruption is a bigger problem. Is the girl who is dancing naked on social media worse than the man who is stealing N2bn in office?”
