Tension as Sowore Leads Massive Protest Against Wike; Reasons Emerge

Former presidential candidate and activist Omoyele Sowore on Saturday led a protest in Abuja against alleged land grabbing in the Federal Capital Territory linked to the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike.
Hundreds of demonstrators turned out across major parts of the capital, accusing the FCT administration of taking over legally acquired lands and reallocating them to political allies and associates.
The protesters marched through the streets carrying placards and singing solidarity songs as they demanded the protection of public spaces, especially Jabi Lake and Jabi Park. According to them, the areas must not be privatized or encroached upon.
Some of the placards displayed messages such as “Save Jabi Lake Now,” “Save Jabi Park Now,” and “Stop Land Grabbing in Abuja.”
As the protest continued, demonstrators chanted slogans accusing both Wike and President Bola Tinubu’s administration of enabling controversial land allocations in the nation’s capital.Presidential election coverage
The protesters called for transparency in the FCT land allocation process and urged authorities to immediately halt what they described as the illegal takeover of public lands.
The protest was still ongoing as of the time this report was filed.
