BREAKING: 16 Lawmakers Dump PDP as Party Crisis Deepens

In what can be described as fresh turmoil, the Rt. Hon. Kizito Bonzena, Speaker of the Taraba State House of Assembly, has officially announced his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and will be joining the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In addition to his decision, Bonzena revealed that 15 other members of the House of Assembly from the PDP have also submitted their letters of defection to the APC.

The defectors include Deputy Speaker Hamman Adama Abdullai (Bali 2 Constituency), Majority Leader Jethro Yakubu (Wukari 1 Constituency), Tafarki Eneme (Kurmi Constituency), Akila Nuhu (Lau Constituency), Musa Chul (Gassol 1 Constituency), Josiah Yaro (Wukari 2 Constituency), Tanko Yusuf (Takum 1 Constituency), Veronica Alhassan (Bali 1 Constituency), Anas Shuaibu (Karim Lamido 2 Constituency), Nelson Len (Nguroje Constituency), Umar Adamu (Jalingo 1 Constituency), Joseph Kassong (Yorro Constituency), John Lamba (Takum 2 Constituency), Happy Shonruba (Ardo-Kola Constituency), and Zakari Sanusi (Ibi Constituency).

Bonzena emphasised that the decision is not personal but in the collective interest of the state.

“Our people should not misinterpret this decision. It is for the interest of Taraba. We now have all 24 members of the House as APC members. We want the people of Taraba to see this as the best decision for the state and continue to support the government,” he said.APC party merchandise

Former Speaker and representative for the Mbamnga Constituency, Peter Diah, has officially welcomed Bonzena and several other defectors into the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Diah expressed gratitude for the support he and other APC members received while they were in the minority in the House, and he is encouraged that all members have now united behind the vision of President Bola Tinubu.

Bonzena expressed hope that this political shift signifies a fresh beginning for Taraba State and its residents.

With these recent defections, the Taraba State House of Assembly currently has no remaining minority members.

Governor Kefas has announced his departure from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and is set to formally join the APC on Saturday.

The influx of opposition members into the APC has raised concerns among some critics, who argue that President Tinubu’s actions could be steering Nigeria toward a one-party system.
