ADC: Amaechi can’t deliver 15 percent – Wike reveals why ex-minister not presidential material

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has expressed skepticism regarding the likelihood of former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, obtaining the presidential nomination of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the lead-up to the 2027 general elections.
During an appearance on Politics Today, a program broadcast by Channels Television on Tuesday, Wike stated that Amaechi is the “last person” that the opposition coalition would consider for its presidential ticket.
This statement comes in response to Amaechi’s recent claims regarding his ability to eliminate corruption within one month of assuming the presidency, should he be elected in 2027.
Amaechi asserted that he possesses intimate knowledge of President Bola Tinubu and is capable of defeating him in the forthcoming election.
Wike refuted these claims, emphasizing that Amaechi lacks a viable political trajectory even within the ADC. He remarked, “No, he cannot. He is the last person they will award the ticket to, as it would be dead on arrival.”
He further referenced their previous encounters during the 2014 and 2015 elections, noting, “When I contested against him, we prevailed. Even in his role as the Director-General of Buhari’s campaign, he could not secure even 15 percent of the votes in Rivers. The evidence is clear.”
Amaechi is among a number of opposition leaders reportedly vying for the coalition’s platform to challenge President Tinubu in the 2027 elections.
