Erling Haaland breaks iconic Newcastle star’s record against Arsenal

Manchester City striker, Erling Haaland has made history by being the fastest player to reach ten Premier League goals in a season.

The Norwegian striker found the back of the net just nine minutes into the crunch title clash with Arsenal on Sunday afternoon, writing his name in the record books in the process.

In reaching ten goals, Haaland beat a record set by a Newcastle United legend.

Prior to his effort, it was Mick Quinn who held the record after taking six matches to reach ten Premier League goals back in 1992/93.

However, Haaland has now claimed that record for himself after a stunning start to the campaign.

City then lost Rodri to a worrying injury and were then pegged back on 22 minutes through a sumptuous left-footed strike from distance by Riccardo Calafiori.

The game was turned on its head in stoppage time at the end of the first half when Gabriel headed home a corner from the right.

But this doesn’t take anything away from the brilliance of Haaland.

His effort against Arsenal also meant that he has already racked up 100 goals for Man City.

With the clash with Mikel Arteta’s side being just his 105th for City, it means that the 24-year-old is agonisingly close to averaging a goal every game for Pep Guardiola’s side.

The 24-year-old has equalled the time it took Cristiano Ronaldo reach 100 goals for Real Madrid.

Haaland wasn’t far off such a record with former club Borussia Dortmund either, with the striker scoring 86 goals in 89 games for the German giants.

The forward is also not far from that sort of record on the international scene, with 32 goals scored in 35 appearances for Norway.

He did, in fact, manage it with Red Bull Salzburg where he scored a staggering 29 goals in 27 games.

A win or draw will see City retake top spot off Liverpool in the Premier League table.

Arsenal started the day in sixth spot but a win for them will see them go top.
