The Lagos State Police Command has dismantled a notorious robbery gang, which specialises in car theft, following a tactical operation led by their Surulere unit.

The gang, comprising six members, includes two dismissed soldiers, one dismissed in 2014 and the other in 2017. The suspects have been operating across the state, disguising themselves in military attire.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, said in an interview that the gang had been under investigation.

“Our investigations establish that they have snatched a total of 13 cars. We have recovered two while others have been sold as scraps, and we are still trying to trace the remaining vehicles,” Hundeyin stated.

The breakthrough in the case came with the arrest of several gang members in Ilorin, Kwara State. Among the suspects is Amos Daniel, a 36-year-old driver, who confessed to stealing a Lexus car on his first day of employment. “I took the car to my pastor to bless, intending to use it for Uber for a few days, so my family could eat,” Daniel admitted.
