Crisis rocks Park Management, chair hacked

There was tension in Osogbo, the Osun State capital yesterday after gunshots were fired at the Secretariat of the Osun Park Management System(OPMS) over alleged extortion, high-handedness and death threats by the appointee of Governor Ademola Adeleke.
The crisis is coming barely 18 months after Governor Adeleke appointed Nurudeen Wakili (a.k.a. Alowonle) as the chairman of the Osun Park Managers.
The incident started in the morning after a group of park managers led by one man simply identified as Aroso and former State Secretary of National Road Transport Worker(NURTW), Comrade Morounkade Akinade, protested against the chairman over extortion and non-remittance of revenue to the government, among others.
The protesters took over the secretariat, chasing away the executives of park managers. However, the executives regrouped and counterd the protesters which caused the two groups to engage in a gun battle and fight which led to hacking of the park managers’ chairman.
Akinade explained: “Wakili always extort us. He collected N1.2million from us when Adeleke was conferred with the title of Asiwaju of Ede Land. He was fond of collecting money in the name of Adeleke’s family. If anyone challenged him, he would threaten such a person. So, we decided that we didn’t want him to direct the affairs of this Osun Transport Management System.
“The government gave us tickets, but he refused to remit money to them. We opposed him; then he threatened to kill us. We are at the secretariat and they are threatening us with guns. They said they would kill us.”
