Govt Declares Wednesday 23rd September 2026 Public Holiday Nationwide; Gives Reason

Saudi Arabia has declared that National Day will be an official holiday for workers employed in both the private and non-profit sectors in the country.

National Day is held on September 23 every year.

This year will be Saudi Arabia’s 96th National Day – and the decision was formally announced by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development.

In a post via their official account on X, the Ministry confirmed that the National Day holiday will fall on Rabi Al Thani 12, 1448 AH, corresponding to September 23, 2026.

With the aim of raising awareness regarding the regulations and rules governing the work environment, Ministry of #Islamic_Affairs, represented by the General Administration of Human Resources organized a workshop for its employees on the Work and Leave Regulation.

The Ministry confirmed that the decision is in line with Article 24 of the Executive Regulations of the Labour Law.

It has called on all employers to comply with the mechanism that is stipulated in the second paragraph of the article.

The announcement now officially confirms that this year’s National Day celebrations will be enjoyed by all workers across the Kingdom.

Traditionally, National Day in Saudi Arabia was not a public holiday for workers operating in private companies or for non-profit organisations.

As aforementioned above, Saudi Arabia celebrates National Day on September 23 each year.

The public holiday officially marks the unification of the Kingdom by its founder, King Abdulaziz Al Saud, in 1932.
