Golden Jubilee: Remo Monarchs Honour Odufowokan With Mayegun, Otunba Onigegewura Titles

Otunba ‘Dare Odufowokan, the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, on Public Communications, bagged two prestigious traditional chieftaincy titles from frontline kings in Remoland as he celebrated his 50th birthday in grand style. The governor’s aide was conferred with the two prestigious chieftaincy titles on the same day.
Odufowokan, who was installed as the *Mayegun of Iraye Remo* by the Nloku of Iraye Remo, Oba Adimula Afolabi Ogunlaja, earlier in the morning of Thursday August 20th, 2026, was also capped as the *Otunba Onigegewura of Eposo Remo* by Oba Mukaila Akanji Olabinjo, the Eleposo of Eposo, later in the afternoon during a colourful ceremony attended by traditional rulers, government officials, captains of industries and dignitaries from across the state.

The unusual dual conferment, described by palace officials as very rare, recognizes the aide’s contributions to youth development, community service, and his support for the socio-economic growth of Iraye Remo, Eposo Remo, Ode Remo, Remoland and Ogun State.
Speaking while performing the traditional rites for the installation of the new Mayegun of Iraye at his palace, Oba Ogunlaja praised the celebrant for his humility, loyalty, and commitment to public service.

“Let me say this publicly: my sitting on this throne is by the grace of God and through the support of Otunba ‘Dare Odufowokan, our new Mayegun. He stood by me through the toughest of times.
At 50, he has shown that service to the people and the state will never go unnoticed. The title of Mayegun is a call to do even more for Iraye Remoland,” the monarch said.
At the Eleposo’s palace, Oba Olabinjo described Odufowokan as a rare kind of person who is never tired of working for the good of society. He added that he is being rewarded for his contributions to the ongoing development of Eposo Remo.
“Our new Otunba Onigegewura is deserving of the title. He has done so much for Eposo, Remoland and the entire Ogun State,” the monarch said.
In his response, the new chief dedicated the honours to God Almighty, Governor Abiodun and the people of Ogun State.
“I am deeply humbled. This 50th birthday will remain unforgettable. I accept these titles with gratitude and promise to use them to advance peace, unity, and development in Remoland and Ogun State,” he said.
Dignitaries present included members of the Ogun State Executive Council, traditional chiefs, political leaders, and associates who described the celebrant as a bridge-builder and a loyal aide to the governor.
The Mayegun title traditionally recognizes a defender and promoter of the realm, while the Otunba Onigegewura title is associated with leadership, counsel, and stewardship in Yoruba chieftaincy systems.
The ceremony ended with prayers, cultural performances, a reception, and thanksgiving in honour of the celebrant’s golden jubilee.
