2027: Tinubu’s Close Ally, Olusi Reveals ‘Incoming Governor’ To Succeed Sanwo-Olu

Pa Tajudeen Olusi, the Chairman of the Lagos Governance Advisory Council (GAC) and a close ally of President Bola Tinubu, has suggested that Obafemi Hamzat, the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, could be a potential successor to the current Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

This information was shared during a recent statement on Wednesday, coinciding with ongoing discussions regarding the status of the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s consensus candidate for the upcoming gubernatorial primary scheduled for next month, according to reports from Naija News.

While speaking at the General Assembly of Indigenous Associations in Lagos State, hosted by the IBILE Eko Summit Foundation, themed: “Addressing Urbanisation and Urban Challenges of Lagos State,” held at MUSON Centre, Onikan, Lagos, Olusi gave a strong hint on the possible consensus candidate as he repeatedly referred to Hamzat as the “incoming Governor of Lagos.”

According to Vanguard, Olusi at one point during his address at the event described Hamzat explicitly as “our incoming Governor of Lagos,” which reportedly drew visible reactions from delegates, given its implications for succession politics in the state ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Olusi also used the platform to reinforce Hamzat’s roots within Lagos as a “son of the soil” slogan, describing him as a “cousin from Egbe,” a remark he said many people were previously unaware of, and one that he presented as further validation of Hamzat’s indigenous standing within the state’s traditional and political structures.

The event was attended by former Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola, and President of the IBILE Eko Summit Foundation, Olasupo Shasore (SAN), a former Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice.
