I'm Not Looking For Marriage - Nollywood Actress Yvonne Jegede Speaks

Nollywood actress Yvonne Jegede has recently shared her perspective on marriage, labeling it as an overrated institution.

At 42 years old, Jegede expressed that while she remains open to the possibility of remarriage, she is not actively seeking it.

In an interview with Naija FM, she highlighted that many relationships tend to change after marriage, noting that couples who have been together for years can sometimes separate shortly after tying the knot.

Jegede raised questions about whether marriage truly enhances a relationship, suggesting that it can introduce elements of intolerance. She proposed that it might be more beneficial for couples to find love and cohabit without the formalities of marriage.

She said, ā€œI am open to remarriage if it comes, but I am not looking for it. I have learnt not to say ā€˜never’.

ā€œI think marriage is overrated. A lot of people who dated for 10 to 15 years, got married, and they broke up within 2 to 3 years. Sometimes, you wonder why such couples didn’t just remain unmarried. Because when they add the marriage tag, a lot of intolerance gets in the way.

ā€œI think it is better to find who you love and just cohabit with them.ā€

Recall that the actress’s previous marriage to Olakunle Abounce Fawole ended in 2019 after less than a year.

She pointed to financial challenges and her ex-husband’s inability to handle the relationship and show respect as reasons for their split.

In earlier interviews, Jegede admitted she had been the leading provider during the marriage and regretted prioritising love over financial security.
