Fresh Tension as Govt Shuts Down Schools in Five LGAs Over Insecurity

The Kwara State government has announced the closure of schools in five local government areas within the Kwara South senatorial district due to ongoing security challenges.
Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe, the state commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, noted that this decision is part of a proactive security strategy aimed at ensuring a safer environment for students.
The closures will take immediate effect in the local government areas of Ifelodun, Ekiti, Irepodun, Isin, and Oke Ero.
The commissioner emphasized that this measure demonstrates the government’s commitment to mitigating the risk of kidnappings, particularly those targeting schoolchildren, who could potentially be used as human shields amid intensified security operations.
“The measures also cover the boarding schools in Irepodun, which could be targets of the criminals who are running for cover amidst widening security operations.
“The measure may remain in place while awaiting further security clearance for normal activities to resume.”
