Alex Iwobi Breaks Silence On Viral Hotel Video, Sends Message To Fans

Super Eagles player Alex Iwobi recently addressed the viral video circulating on social media, which many fans believed depicted the team’s accommodations prior to their World Cup qualifier against Gabon in Morocco.
The footage showed a dilapidated building nearby, leading to widespread criticism from Nigerian supporters who perceived it as the team’s hotel and deemed it unsuitable for a national squad, likening it to a student hostel.
In response to the situation, Super Eagles media officer Promise Efoghe clarified that the players are actually staying at the Rive Hotel, a modern and comfortable facility located in Rabat.
āWhat trended earlier was the view of an old building that can be seen from a window,ā Efoghe said. āRive was chosen because of its proximity to the teamās training facility and the stadium here in Rabat.ā
Iwobi also took to Snapchat to clear the air, saying his post had been taken out of context.
āI didnāt say anything; I just showed the video,ā the Fulham midfielder said. āItās all about perspective because I snapped at the view I have, and people are thinking these guys are ungrateful. Brother, I never said one thing. Some people donāt even have beds.ā
He added that he was comfortable in his room and focused on the important task ahead. āBro, Iām comfy. Iām playing Mario Kart. Anyways, let me go and focus, I have a big game coming up,ā he said.
Meanwhile, the Super Eagles have begun full preparations for their decisive 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Gabon. Eighteen players have already arrived in camp at the Rive Hotel as training intensifies in Rabat.
