APC Releases List of Disqualified Aspirants Nationwide (FULL LIST)

According to report by Vanguard on Thursday, June 18, 2026, a former All Progressives Congress (APC) leader and Chairman of the Egba Agenda Forum, High Chief Mustapha Abdulhakeem Owolabi, has officially left the APC for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing what he described as persistent political neglect of Egbaland within Ogun State.

Owolabi made the announcement during the 2026 Egba Agenda Convention held in Abeokuta on Thursday, where he was accompanied by over 8,000 supporters drawn from Ogun Central and other parts of the state.

The mass defection was one of the key highlights of the gathering, which attracted political stakeholders and community leaders.

He also declared his support for the PDP governorship candidate for the 2027 election, Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu, alongside his running mate, Alhaja Dr. Lateefat Sowunmi-Kolapo.

Owolabi, a former aspirant to the Ogun State House of Assembly and once a coordinator in Governor Dapo Abiodun’s 2023 re-election structure, said the decision followed growing concerns about exclusion and imbalance in state politics.

According to him, Egbaland has faced sustained marginalisation for over seven years, warning that any further attempt to exclude the region from producing the state’s next leadership would amount to injustice lasting another 16 years.

He described the convention as a renewed push for fairness, inclusion, and equitable political representation.

Owolabi stressed that the Egba people, as one of the foundational groups in Ogun State, deserve equal opportunities in governance, insisting they should not be treated as lesser stakeholders.

He also lamented the relatively slow pace of development in Abeokuta compared to other state capitals across Nigeria.

He praised the selection of Sowunmi-Kolapo as Adebutu’s running mate, describing her as a respected Egba indigene whose emergence reflects inclusiveness.

He further revealed that the PDP had pledged to ensure an Egba indigene occupies the office of Secretary to the State Government if it wins the governorship.

Owolabi added that the MAO Movement for Change and the Egba Agenda Forum had jointly adopted the PDP candidates for the upcoming election.

In response, Adebutu promised transparent governance, stronger local government autonomy, and grassroots development. He also called for a public debate with the APC candidate.

PDP Senatorial candidate Iyabo Obasanjo urged unity among Egba people and encouraged voters to resist political marginalisation, expressing confidence in PDP’s capacity to deliver inclusive leadership.
