It added that the policy provides “a long-term roadmap for achieving energy security, expanding electricity access, integrating renewable energy, and building a more resilient and efficient power sector.”

President Tinubu was said to have commended Adelabu for his performance in the sector and granted approval for his political ambition.

Tunji said, “President Tinubu commended the minister for his dedication and the progress recorded… The President also granted his consent and blessing for the minister to pursue his governorship ambition.”

It noted, “The timing of his anticipated resignation reflects his commitment to addressing key sectoral challenges and ensuring continuity in ongoing reforms prior to exiting office.”

This includes efforts to stabilise the sector amid recent declines in power generation linked to gas supply constraints, pipeline repairs, and outstanding obligations to gas suppliers.

Recall that the President had earlier directed all political appointees seeking elective offices to resign on or before March 31.

Adelabu, according to the statement, expressed appreciation to the President for his support and reaffirmed his commitment to advancing Nigeria’s power sector and national development.
