Finally, Gov Adeleke Dumps PDP To Join Accord Party, Gives Reasons

Ademola Adeleke, the Governor of Osun State, has officially announced his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In his statement released on Instagram late Monday evening, he attributed his decision to ongoing leadership issues within the party at the national level. Adeleke indicated that he submitted his resignation to party officials in Sagba Abogunde, Ward 2, Ede North Local Government on November 4, 2025.
He stated, “Due to the ongoing crisis within the leadership of the People’s Democratic Party (#OfficialPDPNig) at the national level, I officially conveyed my resignation letter as a member to the party leadership in Sagba Abogunde, Ward 2, Ede North Local Government on November 4, 2025.
“I thank the party and its many members and supporters for the opportunities they have provided me, first as a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and now as Governor of Osun State.”
Earlier reports from the PDP state chapter indicated that Adeleke was unlikely to seek the party’s nomination for the 2026 governorship election unless the internal conflicts were resolved.
The leadership had expressed hope that a resolution, recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission, could persuade him otherwise.
ThePAPERS previously reported that Osun State’s PDP leadership suggested Governor Adeleke may not seek the party’s nomination for the 2026 governorship election.
However, the party noted that Adeleke’s decision could change if current party crises are resolved and recognized by INEC before the election.
Meanwhile, before this resignation, the Osun state governor was considering two political parties, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and the Accord Party.
According to a reliable source from the governor’s camp, Adeleke has decided to join the Accord Party to contest in the 2026 governorship election.
However, after several consultations and support, he has shifted his focus to the Accord Party, given its historical significance in the Southwest.
