Trump’s Threat: Army Chief Meets Tinubu, Assures Nigerians Of Improved Security

In light of ongoing security challenges, particularly in northern regions, Army Chief Waidi Shaibu has reassured Nigerians of enhanced security measures nationwide.
His assurances came during a meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa on Tuesday.
“I just came to brief him on the outcome of my visit to the northeast region and look at other security situations across the country, which were satisfactory within this period,” the army chief stated.
During a recent visit to the region, Shaibu expressed optimism about the future, stating that Nigerians should anticipate “improved security across the country.”
This visit took place against the backdrop of President Donald Trump’s designation of Nigeria as a “country of particular concern,” along with threats to intervene over alleged Christian genocide.
In response, the Tinubu administration highlighted that diplomatic conversations between Nigeria and the United States are currently underway and are producing positive outcomes.
In an interview on ‘The World With Yalda Hakim’, a UK-based Sky News programme on Monday, information minister Mohammed Idris said, “Channels of communication have been opened. I can confirm that. We are talking to them, and I believe they are now appreciating the situation better.”
Idris pointed out that the U.S. had been misled into mischaracterizing the killings in Nigeria. He stated that intelligence reports indicated a connection between a banned separatist organization in Nigeria and specific U.S.-based lobbying groups, which were allegedly collaborating to misrepresent Nigeria’s situation to the U.S.
“We have observed a direct connection between lobbyists in the United States and a proscribed terrorist group in Nigeria. These groups are actively engaging influential people in the U.S. to advance misleading narratives,” the minister stated.
