2027: Peter Obi is not trustworthy - LP member warns Nigerians

Abayomi Arabambi, a prominent member of the Labour Party (LP), has dismissed Peter Obi’s commitment to serve only a single term if he becomes president, urging Nigerians to be wary of the former Anambra State governor.

In an interview on Tuesday, Arabambi argued that Obi’s pledge lacks credibility, citing his defection from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA)—the party under which he was elected governor twice—as a key example of his inconsistency.

“So, we are not going to trust him,” Arabami said on the show about Obi’s proposal of a single term.

“So, Peter Obi cannot be telling Nigerians, ‘Oh, don’t worry, I will do a single term,’ when ab initio, with his own mouth, he said he would stay in APGA; he is not going to leave,” the factional national publicity secretary of the LP said.

Recently, Obi renewed his pledge to serve only one term if elected president in 2027. In a tweet posted on Sunday, he wrote:

“In my political life, my word is my bond… My vow to serve only one term of four years is a solemn commitment, rooted in my conviction that purposeful, transparent leadership does not require an eternity.”

However, LP chieftain Abayomi Arabambi has dismissed Obi’s vow, urging Nigerians not to take it seriously. He argued that Obi’s popularity in the last election stemmed from widespread youth dissatisfaction with the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Arabambi further alleged that Obi contributed nothing financially to the Labour Party and instead benefited from its structure.

“No kobo of Peter Obi entered the party,” Arabambi claimed, insisting that it was the LP that made Obi, not the other way around.
