Supreme Court affirms election of Gov Yahaya of Gombe State

The Supreme Court has recently upheld the decision of the lower courts that confirmed the election of Governor Inuwa Yahaya as the governor of Gombe State.

This decision came after Jibrin Barde of the Peoples Democratic Party had contested the election outcome.

The Court of Appeal in Abuja had previously affirmed the election of Yahaya as the governor in November 2023, stating that the petitioners failed to provide sufficient evidence to prove their allegations of non-qualification, perjury, and certificate forgery raised in the petition.

The five-member panel of the Supreme Court, led by Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, endorsed the concurrent judgment of the lower courts on the matter, stating that she found no basis to interfere with the judgment.
