Inside Abuja’s ‘Yahoo School’: EFCC Arrests 31 in Shocking Crackdown

On Thursday, April 9, 2026, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) conducted a sting operation that resulted in the arrest of 31 individuals suspected of internet fraud at an academy located in Becki Estate, Karu, in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
According to a statement from the EFCC reported by Naija News, the group included two leaders of the operation as well as several interns who were in the process of receiving training in internet fraud.
During the raid, authorities recovered various items, including 18 laptop computers, multiple smartphones, and other electronic devices.
The EFCC’s investigation uncovered that some of the interns had been attracted to the academy from Benue State with the promise of job opportunities. However, upon arrival, they were provided with communication devices and computers, marking the beginning of their training in cyber fraud activities.
To enforce compliance and dedication, the proprietors house the recruits in the academy and restrict their movements strictly within the perimeters of the facility and forcibly took possession of their mobile phones, thus totally cutting them off from the outside world.
Furthermore, corporal punishment was the order of the day, with heavy-handed physical assault meted out to interns who were seen to be recalcitrant.
The anti-graft agency added that the suspects will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.
