Tragedy Strikes in Nollywood Again as Popular Actor Dies

The Nigerian film and television industry is in mourning following the death of veteran actor Davis Offor, renowned for his portrayal of Clarus in the beloved sitcom The New Masquerade.
His passing was confirmed by fellow actor Tony Akposheri, who played Zacky in the same influential series that shaped an era of Nigerian television.
In a heartfelt tribute posted on Facebook, Akposheri expressed his shock and profound sadness over Offor’s death, reflecting on their recent interactions.
He mentioned that during their last meeting at the beginning of the New Year, Offor was vibrant and filled with hope.
“Today, my heart is heavy. Davis Offor, fondly known as Clarus from New Masquerade, is gone,” he wrote.
“We crossed into the New Year together, laughing, talking, sharing memories, and speaking hopefully about the days ahead. None of us knew that time was already counting differently for you.”
Akposheri described the late actor as more than just a colleague, highlighting his warmth, humour, and vibrant personality.
“You were more than a familiar face on screen. You were a friend, a brother, a man with warmth, humour, and a presence that could light up any space,” he added.
He noted that Offor’s sudden death has left a painful void, making it difficult to come to terms with the loss of someone he had spoken with only recently.
“It is hard to believe that the voice I heard not long ago is now a memory. Hard to accept that someone so full of life can suddenly become a story we tell,” he said.
Davis Offor rose to prominence through The New Masquerade, a beloved Nigerian sitcom that captivated audiences with its humour and memorable characters, including the boastful and comedic Clarus.
His death marks the loss of one of the familiar faces of early Nigerian television, remembered for bringing laughter to countless homes across the country.
Funeral arrangements are yet to be announced.
