APC Secretary Resigns, Set to Join ADC

The Welfare Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State, Bashir Maisango, has resigned from his position and membership of the party as he prepares to join the African Democratic Congress.
Maisango’s resignation comes barely a week after Musa Rabiu Kwankwaso and the APC’s 2023 governorship candidate in Kano State, Nasiru Gawuna, also defected to the ADC.
In a resignation letter addressed to the Kano State APC chairman, Maisango said his decision to leave the party was voluntary.
“I, Bashir Tijjani Maisango, hereby voluntarily resign my membership from the All Progressives Congress (APC), effective April 1, 2026,” he stated.
He expressed appreciation to the party for the opportunities he had during his time as a member.

“I appreciate the opportunities the party has given me and wish the APC well,” he added.
Maisango’s exit adds to the growing list of defections from the APC in Kano in recent days.
In a related development, the anticipated defection of Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to either the ADC or the All Progressives Congress (APC) failed to materialise on Thursday, despite growing speculation about his political future.
The development followed intense political lobbying from both parties seeking to secure the governor’s support ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Although Mohammed is approaching the end of his second term in office next year, sources said he has been heavily courted by the ruling APC and the ADC, which is currently grappling with internal leadership challenges.
